Energy Workers Under Fire Again: Challenges in Donetsk
In the Donetsk region, a team of energy workers from DTEK came under fire again while carrying out their duties. Since February 2022, the company's specialists have faced danger during repairs more than 200 times.
This was reported by DTEK.
«The DTEK Donetsk Power Networks team was targeted by a drone while performing their tasks. Fortunately, no energy workers were injured, but the crew's vehicle was damaged,» the statement reads.
It is noted that shelling continues in the region, complicating the work of emergency recovery teams.
This time, the specialists were switching power on one of the energy facilities to connect a power line that had been repaired after an attack. Suddenly, they heard the sound of a drone, and an explosion occurred near the vehicle, but the workers managed to avoid injury: the driver jumped out of the car before the explosion and, along with a colleague, took shelter in the nearest building. Although some parts of the wheels were destroyed, fortunately, the vehicle remained operational, allowing the energy workers to head to the nearest settlement where colleagues assisted with the repairs.
Over the three years of full-scale invasion, DTEK Donetsk Power Networks' recovery teams have faced attacks during repairs more than 200 times. Nineteen energy company specialists sustained injuries, according to DTEK.
However, the energy professionals continue to restore networks as soon as possible and bring electricity back to the region's residents, the company assured.
As reported, Donetsk is under constant fire from Russian troops, with the Russian army daily harming and killing civilians, destroying homes, businesses, and infrastructure. The Donetsk region has the longest frontline stretch of about 300 km.
In July 2025, electricity was restored in 146 settlements in the Donetsk region that had been cut off due to enemy shelling.
