New Exchange of Prisoners: Ukrainian Defenders Return Home
Ukraine has successfully carried out another prisoner exchange, bringing home a group of defenders in accordance with the agreements reached in Istanbul.
This latest exchange was made possible thanks to the efforts of the Coordination Headquarters established by the President of Ukraine, which organized the return of servicemen needing medical assistance, as well as those under 25 years of age.
The returning servicemen include members of various military branches, including the Navy, Ground Forces, Territorial Defense, Airborne Forces, as well as the National Guard and border guards.
The youngest defender is only 20 years old, while the oldest is 59. There are also officers among the returnees.
Among those freed are defenders from Mariupol, who have been held captive since 2022.
The majority of the released individuals spent more than three years in captivity.
They defended Ukraine in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Luhansk, and Kherson directions.
Today's exchange also included the release of unlawfully convicted civilians.
The released individuals will undergo medical examinations and receive necessary rehabilitation assistance and compensation for their time in captivity.
The exchange process continues. The exact number of released persons will be announced after all stages are completed.
The head of the Coordination Headquarters, Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov, participated in today’s exchange.
