Rescue Under Fire: Heroism in Pokrovsk
In Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, during the evacuation of severely injured individuals, the "White Angels" team came under fire from Russian drones: one police officer was injured, and an evacuated civilian sadly bled out and did not survive.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
The extreme evacuation was carried out by the police unit "White Angels" in collaboration with the organization "Chaplain Patrol" using chaplains' vehicles.
The Russians attacked the evacuators three times. The first drone struck as they approached the city, and another hit in the city center. It was a targeted hunt, but the crew was fortunate - the drones fell nearby.
At the same time, the enemy targeted a civilian couple riding bicycles. The man and woman were heading to a location where they could charge their phone. Both suffered severe injuries from the explosion, with the 42-year-old man losing a leg. The police found them on the road, provided first aid, and rushed them to the hospital along with another injured person.
At that moment, Russian forces struck the vehicle with a "Lightning" drone. The car sustained numerous damages and could not proceed further. The police officer was injured, and reinforcements were called in.
The rescue operation was carried out in two phases: first, the injured civilians were evacuated, and then the "White Angels" were picked up by the patrol police.
Due to the cynical Russian attack, precious minutes were lost for saving lives - the severely injured man died in the hospital.
It is noted that the injured police officer, Kostiantyn Tunitskyi, is receiving treatment for shrapnel wounds to his leg, and there is no threat to his life. The "White Angels" aim to return to duty soon and continue their lifesaving efforts.
As of today, about 1,700 residents remain in Pokrovsk. Law enforcement and volunteers risk their lives daily to help them.
