Seizing Shevchenko: A Strategic Move for Lithium Resources

The village of Shevchenko in the Donetsk region has come under the control of Russian forces, granting access to a significant lithium deposit in the area.

This information was reported by Le Figaro.

The publication notes that by capturing this seemingly inconspicuous village, located just over 10 km from Velyka Novosilka, Russian troops have gained access to one of the most promising lithium deposits in Ukraine.

According to Wikipedia, this deposit contains approximately 1.2 million tons of ore with a lithium content exceeding 1.5%.

Lithium, which has seen a sharp rise in price in recent years, is a crucial component in the production of electric vehicle batteries.

Additionally, lithium is used in electronics, ceramics, aerospace alloys, and energy storage.

In 2022, the price of lithium reached a record high of over $80,000 per ton. As of June 27, 2025, the price per ton of lithium in China stands at $8,500.
