Russia returns mutilated bodies to create chaos — MIA
The identification of the deceased is being complicated by Russia's actions, which return the bodies in horrific condition. Recently, alongside Ukrainian soldiers, Russian soldiers' bodies were also mixed in.
"Unfortunately, during recent repatriations, we received mixed bodies, complicating the work for our experts. This could be a deliberate tactic by Russia to create additional pressure on our team. Regardless, we are committed to identifying them," noted Interior Minister Igor Klymenko.
Klymenko emphasized that after each repatriation, a complex process begins: autopsy, DNA testing, and thorough examination.
This process is already quite challenging, and Russia's actions add further difficulties. Bodies are being returned to Ukraine in appalling condition, with parts of a single body sometimes found in different bags. There have even been cases where remains of one person were returned at different stages.
The minister stressed that experts are working at the limits of their capabilities. Each examination is conducted meticulously. We have trained specialists and modern laboratories, but the biggest challenge is time.
"We understand the pain of the families. We are doing everything possible to expedite the identification process. However, with each new repatriation, it becomes increasingly difficult, and perhaps that is Russia's goal."
"There is no room for error. This is not just statistics. These are people, and each of them deserves to be treated with dignity," the Interior Minister concluded.
As a reminder, on June 16, Ukraine received another 1245 bodies of the deceased. Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced the completion of the repatriation of deceased bodies under the Istanbul agreements, returning over 6,000 deceased bodies.
