Completion of Repatriation: Return of Deceased Bodies to Ukraine
Today marked the conclusion of the repatriation process as per the agreements made in Istanbul. Ukraine has received an additional 1245 bodies, which, according to Russian sources, belong to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel. Thus, a total of 6057 bodies have been returned under the Istanbul agreements.
All necessary examinations and identifications of the repatriated bodies will be conducted by investigative authorities in cooperation with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
This process has been successfully carried out thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other security sector entities.
We express our gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance.
A special thanks goes to the personnel of the Central Administration of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and the Joint Center, who handle the transportation of repatriated bodies to designated specialized facilities.
