Mobilization of Healthcare Workers: New Developments
The Medical Forces Command has initiated a partial exemption of healthcare workers for their mobilization as stipulated by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council.
This was reported by Health Minister Viktor Liashko during a briefing, as stated by "Interfax-Ukraine".
"Currently, the first stage of this exemption is underway: The Medical Forces Command has reached out to the Ministry of Defense. The Ministry of Defense sent us a request regarding the number of healthcare professionals they wish us to exempt and mobilize at this initial stage," he said.
The Ministry of Health's website indicated that relevant consultations with health departments have already taken place.
Viktor Liashko added that this decision will ensure the rotation of healthcare workers who will be called up to the Armed Forces.
It is worth noting that at the beginning of 2025, the government allowed the exemption of 100% of medical workers in state and municipal institutions, public health facilities, and blood centers, where work in these institutions is the primary place of employment.
Previously, medical facilities deemed critically important could only exempt up to 50% of conscripted men, with any increase in this percentage requiring a separate decision from the Minister of Defense.
However, Health Minister Viktor Liashko pointed out that during the state of war, medical workers in Ukraine are considered conscripted, and the process of their exemption is merely "conditional".
