New US Demands from Russia in Peace Talks
As part of its new approach to the peace process, the United States plans to demand that Russia acknowledge Ukraine's sovereignty regarding defense matters, as well as the return of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Source: Bloomberg, citing informed sources, reports "European Truth".
According to these sources, US Special Envoy Donald Trump's Steve Witkoff will raise this issue in talks with Vladimir Putin.
Additionally, the US insists on returning the Zaporizhzhia NPP under Ukrainian control.
According to the Trump administration's plan, the plant will eventually come under American control to supply electricity to both Ukrainian cities and those under Russian occupation, the sources say.
Washington also seeks to ensure Ukraine's access to the Dnipro River and regain control over territories in the Kharkiv region currently occupied by Russia.
Representatives from the National Security Council, the State Department, and Witkoff have not responded to requests for comment.
Earlier, media reported that the Trump administration provided Ukraine with a one-page document, viewed as the "final proposal" for peace resolution. Among other things, the US is ready to acknowledge Russian control over Crimea and ease sanctions against Moscow.
President Zelensky stated that Ukraine will not recognize the Russian occupation of Crimea, which is internationally recognized as Ukrainian territory.
The Financial Times reports that some European officials are concerned that discrepancies regarding the Trump administration's unilateral "peace deal" project, which involves US recognition of Crimea as part of Russia, could undermine transatlantic security and even derail the NATO summit at the end of June.
