Recovery of Fallen Heroes: Latest Updates
Ukraine has successfully repatriated 909 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers who died in various combat zones.
This information was provided by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Details on the recovery of fallen Ukrainian soldiers
The bodies were retrieved from the following regions:
- Kurakhiv
- Pokrovsk
- Bakhmut
- Vuhledar
- Luhansk
- Zaporizhzhia
- Sumy
- Kharkiv
Bodies were also returned from morgues located in Russia.
The repatriation was carried out with the assistance of the Coordination Headquarters, the Ministry of Reintegration, and the authorized representative for missing persons, in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies and international organizations.
The bodies will be transported to designated state facilities where law enforcement and forensic experts will identify the deceased.
After identification, the bodies of the fallen defenders will be handed over to their relatives for burial.
Previous repatriation efforts - what we know
On March 28, 909 bodies of deceased Ukrainian soldiers were repatriated.
On February 14, Ukraine received 757 bodies of soldiers who died in various combats.
On January 24, 757 bodies were returned from various fronts.
On December 20, 503 bodies of fallen soldiers were repatriated.
On November 29, 502 bodies of military personnel were successfully recovered.
On November 8, 563 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers were returned.
On October 18, 501 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers were repatriated.
On August 2, 250 bodies of fallen soldiers were returned from various regions including Luhansk and Bakhmut.
On June 14, 254 bodies of fallen defenders were brought back to Ukraine and will be handed over to families after identification.
