A nine-year-old gymnast from Chornomorsk, Oleksandra Pascal, has been honored with the prestigious «Future of Ukraine» award for her courage after losing a leg due to a Russian shelling. This was announced on her official Instagram account.
The award was presented to her by the President of Ukraine and the First Lady.
«It is a great honor for me, and I feel a tremendous responsibility. Thank you for recognizing my efforts. I promise to continue working with love and dedication to Ukraine», the young athlete wrote.
In May 2022, during a Russian missile strike, Oleksandra was seriously injured and spent two weeks in intensive care, after which her leg had to be amputated.
President Volodymyr Zelensky also awarded other students for their bravery, resilience, and active civic engagement displayed during these challenging times.
