Commemoration of Holodomor Victims in Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelensky, alongside First Lady Olena Zelenska and several top officials, participated in the commemoration ceremony for the victims of the Holodomor. The event was broadcasted by the President's Office, with Ukrinform providing coverage on its YouTube channel.
The ceremony began with a prayer at the Uspensky Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra for the millions innocently lost to the Holodomors.
The prayer was led by the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, His Beatitude Epiphanius, along with the head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Valeriy Antoniuk, Mufti Aider Rustemov, Bishop Markos Oganesyan, and Bishop Oleksandr Yazlovetsky.
The “Khreshchatyk” choir performed the prayer “Eternal Memory” for the souls of millions of Ukrainians who perished from hunger.
Afterward, participants marched to the National Museum of Holodomor-Genocide, laying sheaves of wheat tied with blue and yellow ribbons at the statue of a girl holding ears of wheat.
Among the attendees were military officials, including National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pyvnenko and Armed Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrsky, as well as other government leaders.
We remind you that on Saturday, November 22, Ukraine honors the memory of Holodomor victims. This day of remembrance is observed annually on the fourth Saturday of November based on presidential decrees from 1998 and 2007.
