Water Rehabilitation for Soldiers: New Opportunities
A recent event in Kyiv focused on the water rehabilitation of soldiers, organized by Denis Silantiev under the project «Free Waves». Its goal is to aid in the physical and mental recovery of Ukrainian defenders through swimming activities.
According to Marina Honda, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, swimming is not just a sport but a crucial rehabilitation tool that can alleviate pain and enhance coordination.
«This initiative showcases how sports can contribute to recovery», — she emphasized.
As of October 1, 2025, the Kyiv Department of Health reports that 24 medical institutions are providing rehabilitation services to soldiers, both in inpatient and outpatient settings. The city has over 700 rehabilitation beds, with numbers steadily increasing.
Throughout 2025, more than 4,300 soldiers received inpatient medical rehabilitation, while nearly 1,300 received outpatient support, including orthopedic and psychological aid.
The Kyiv Military Hub also offers psychological rehabilitation, including art therapy and group support.
Soldiers have the opportunity to engage in adaptive sports such as swimming, rowing, and table tennis.
«Rehabilitation is more than just physical recovery. It's a journey to inner peace and support at every step», — Marina Honda noted.
Within the framework of the program «Support for Kyivans - Defenders of Ukraine», assistance has already been provided to 66,000 military personnel and their families, totaling over 1 billion UAH in the first nine months of 2025.
