Culture as a Unifying Force: Kyiv at the Summit

Over the course of several days, representatives from various cities around the world, including delegates, cultural leaders, and policymakers, actively discussed the role of culture in strengthening communities and creating unity in the face of modern challenges. The summit, dedicated to the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam, was held under the motto "Stronger Together: Culture in a Changing World." This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Administration.
The event gathered over 200 participants representing the cultural sector – artists, curators, and administrators, making it one of the largest platforms for experience exchange.
Kyiv was represented by city council members and heads of cultural institutions. "This is our third participation in the World Cities Culture Forum, and it is a great honor for our city," noted one of the participants, emphasizing the importance of discussing contemporary issues.
Representatives mentioned that the format of the event not only allows for the exchange of experiences but also draws attention to the challenges faced by Kyiv.
"Delegates from various countries show interest in Ukrainian art and its impact on society," she added.
Kyiv participants engaged in a series of panel discussions on how to engage youth in culture and support new initiatives. The accessibility of art and its impact on people's health were also significant discussion topics.
Special attention was given to how culture can help overcome social barriers and strengthen community identity. Additionally, a session dedicated to memory and identity of cities was held, discussing how understanding the past helps shape shared values.
Furthermore, Kyiv representatives promised to share experiences in cultural policy during wartime, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation.
"Participation in the World Cities Culture Forum is not just about exchanging experiences but also about making a statement on the international stage," one representative noted.
It is worth mentioning that Kyiv joined the global network of the World Cities Culture Forum in 2023, which unites 49 cities from around the world.
