Football Match in Support of Special Operations Veterans
The event was organized by multiple associations, including the Ukrainian Football Association and the Veterans Football Association. The first kick was made by soldiers with amputations, including the holder of the Bohdan Khmelnytsky Order, Mykola “Eneyko” and others. Their play captivated the audience, who cheered for the players. Before the match, representatives of the SSO presented awards to UAF President Andriy Shevchenko.
“I am grateful to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for your service; you are true heroes,” said Andriy Shevchenko. The match gathered veterans from various professions, and renowned players like Serhiy Nagornyak and Volodymyr Yezerskyi took to the field.
The Special Operations team also displayed impressive skill under the leadership of Andrii Donts. Ultimately, the veterans' team won with a score of 4:2, with standout goals from Yevhen Selezniov and Oleksandr Hladkyi.
The game was intense and emotional, with particular attention on Andriy Shevchenko. In the second half, the Ukrainian team increased their lead, but the most important message was about unity, not just victory.
“The soldiers showed that they can not only fight but also play football,” emphasized coach Myron Markevych. The match was not just a competition but a celebration of unity for everyone who cares about Ukraine's fate.
After the match, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the AVFU and SSO, paving the way for new opportunities for veterans in sports and rehabilitation.
