Oslo Rally: Calls for the Release of Azovstal Defenders
The purpose of the event was to draw the attention of Norwegian society and the international community to the plight of Ukrainian captives.
“Many defenders of Mariupol, protectors of Azovstal, and brave marines are currently in Russian captivity. They are tortured, denied medical care, and held without access to international protection,” emphasized representatives of the Ukrainian community in Norway.
During the rally, activists put forward several demands, including: immediate release of all Ukrainian prisoners, returning the defenders of “Azovstal” and marines home, unconditional adherence to international humanitarian law regarding the treatment of prisoners, and ensuring justice for all who sacrificed themselves for Ukraine.
“They cannot shout for themselves now. But we must shout for them! Our heroes are not forgotten. Our heroes must come home! There is no freedom without them. There is no victory without them. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!”, emotional representatives of the community addressed the attendees and the world.
This event was organized by the Ukrainian community in Norway with the support of the charity campaign “Heart in Action”.
The organizers expressed gratitude to the speakers who supported the event with their speeches, including the Ukrainian ambassador to Norway Oleksiy Havrysh, political advisor to Amnesty International Norway Ane Tussvik Bonde, Ukrainian soldier Bohdan, who was personally held in Russian captivity, activist from Mariupol Danilo Rebri, and activist Myroslava Mykhailchuk, whose brother is still in Russian captivity.
“We also thank our talented Anna Handzii for her strong voice, and the singers from the “Zhuravlina” choir and the “Kvitka” choir!”, the organizers added in their statement.
