The Potential of Social Entrepreneurship in Kyiv
Social entrepreneurship in Kyiv holds significant potential for addressing pressing social and economic issues, as well as for fostering inclusion and post-war recovery. This topic was highlighted during a roundtable organized by the municipal research institution «Kyiv Research Institute of Socio-Economic Development of the City».
«Social business can be a vital tool in overcoming the consequences of war and developing an inclusive labor market. From innovative prosthetic production to enhancing community safety, the city government is ready to support entrepreneurs by embedding these measures in urban programs. This is a crucial step towards sustainable development and creating a fair society», – stated Vyacheslav Panchenko, the first deputy director of the Department of Economics and Investments of the Kyiv City State Administration.
According to SILab Ukraine, there are over 50 social enterprises operating in Kyiv. Approximately 40% focus on environmental issues, 30% on the integration of people with disabilities and veterans, and 20% on educational and cultural initiatives. These enterprises provide jobs for over 2000 individuals, with around 30% being from vulnerable population groups.
«Kyiv can become a leader in creating the infrastructure for social entrepreneurship. Social innovators often require technical assistance, including support in grant applications and attracting investments», – emphasized the director of the Institute, Sergey Pavlovsky.
He also stressed the importance of leveraging international experience and best local practices to support companies seeking to integrate social impact into their operations.
