Kyiv City Council Calls for Increased Salaries for Educators
The Kyiv City Council has appealed to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers to increase salaries for teachers and academic staff. This appeal was supported during the plenary session of the City Council held today, October 31.
Deputy of the Kyiv City Council, Boris Siklitsky, emphasized that in the context of low wages and high risks, especially during wartime, there is a threat of losing qualified educators, which could negatively impact the quality of education for the youth.
«Educators play a crucial role in shaping future generations, and their work deserves proper recognition. Today, educational institutions have become not just places of learning but also safe havens of support. We insist on raising the salary for entry-level staff to 3,600 UAH as outlined in the 2024 budget and propose adjusting the bonus system to 30% of the salary for educators at all levels. Additionally, the deputies urge to maintain the current wage regulations for academic staff to prevent a further shortage of personnel in education», – noted Siklitsky.
The deputy also stated that systematic changes must be implemented at the state level to ensure a stable salary level aligned with the country's economic growth.
