Launch of the New Jerusalem Bible Edition
On January 15, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, will present the first complete edition of the Ukrainian version of the Jerusalem Bible. This publication is one of the most recognized Catholic texts of the Holy Scriptures worldwide, as reported by the UGCC Information Department.
The Jerusalem Bible was developed through the efforts of the French Biblical and Archaeological School in Jerusalem, founded and led by Dominican monks. The introduction and notes have already been translated into 12 languages and published in over 40 countries. For many Christians, it has become an accessible and authoritative resource for engaging with the Holy Scriptures.
This Ukrainian version combines the Old and New Testaments with commentaries, notes, chronological and genealogical tables, an alphabetical index, maps, and reference materials. The text of the previous edition from 2009, which included the New Testament and Psalms, was used with certain corrections.
In his address to Ukrainian readers, His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized: «The comments and notes of the Jerusalem Bible are a true treasure for every reader. They clarify complex concepts and the context of salvation history presented in the inspired books, helping to uncover the depth of the text and discover new meanings, introducing readers to a world of spiritual wisdom and facilitating a better understanding of the Divine message to humanity, which is the Holy Scripture».
