Celebrating Military Counterintelligence Day in Ukraine
In Ukraine, Military Counterintelligence Day of the Security Service is celebrated.
This professional holiday was established in 1991 by the decree of then-President Leonid Kravchuk, marking the beginning of military counterintelligence operations in independent Ukraine. This department of the SBU is a functional unit of the Central Administration.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, congratulated the military counterintelligence officers on their professional holiday.
According to him, "on this day we honor the military counterintelligence personnel of the Security Service of Ukraine who neutralize enemy spy networks and expose spies, saboteurs, and traitors."
Syrskyi emphasized that during the war for Ukraine's independence, the role of counterintelligence is exceptional, as they operate on the front lines of the 'invisible front', detecting and dismantling networks of Russian intelligence in the rear.
"On this day, I bow my head before the memory of every brave Ukrainian counterintelligence officer who gave their life in the fight against the Russian empire of evil. A low bow to our counterintelligence for every disrupted plan of the Russian agency and for the lives saved of Ukrainian citizens. I sincerely thank them for their vigilance, professionalism, and loyalty to the oath," the commander noted.
