Guidelines for Comfort in Kyiv Metro During Air Alerts
The Kyiv Metro is not just a means of transport, but also a safe haven during emergencies. Metro staff are always ready to assist passengers in navigating and supporting them in difficult moments. It is important for everyone to care for themselves and their loved ones while in the shelter.
During an air alert, here are some tips for a comfortable stay in the metro.
At night, make sure to bring:
- warm clothing and blankets, as the temperature in the shelter can be around 17–18°C;
- personal medications, a bottle of water, or a thermos with a warm drink;
- hygiene products (wipes, toilet paper);
- for pet owners – pads and bags.
If the station is used as a shelter before train operations conclude (22:30–23:30), remember:
- stay clear of passenger flow areas to facilitate evacuation;
- use space wisely, as the shelter is shared;
- keep your belongings secure and maintain cleanliness.
After 5:30, when metro operations resume, stations are no longer considered shelters. Passengers must remember that sleeping on platforms or stairs is prohibited during train operations as it:
- poses a safety risk due to train movement;
- blocks evacuation routes;
- complicates passenger flow.
It is worth noting that during the day, over 700 metro staff work at night to ensure smooth operations, performing tasks like repainting and equipment checks. Specialized vehicles also operate at night to transport workers and materials.
The metro urges everyone to treat staff with respect, as their work ensures safe and comfortable travel even after distressing nights.
