Ukraine's Pavilion at COP30: War's Environmental Consequences
At the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) in Brazil, Ukraine unveiled its pavilion titled «Time Capsule», highlighting the effects of war on the environment and its strides in climate policy. According to the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine,
the event took place in the city of Belem, where Ukraine reminded the world of the devastating toll of war – over 3 million hectares of forests destroyed and nearly 6 trillion hryvnias in environmental damage.
The delegation urged the UN to amend Russian documents that unlawfully include occupied Ukrainian territories and presented an updated Nationally Determined Contribution. The «Time Capsule» pavilion combined themes of food security, nature conservation, energy independence, and post-war recovery. Symbolic elements – damaged fields, devastated forests, and the digital project Winds of Freedom – illustrate both destruction and renewal.
Even during wartime, Ukraine remains a steadfast partner in the fight against climate change, stated Minister Oleksiy Sobolev.
The pavilion became the voice of an unyielding nation, showcasing a path to sustainable recovery to the world.
