Simplified Citizenship Procedures for Foreign Nationals in Ukraine

The Ukrainian government has introduced new regulations that allow citizens of several countries to obtain Ukrainian citizenship through a simplified procedure. Included in this list are Canada, Germany, Poland, the USA, and the Czech Republic. This resolution was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Additionally, nationals of these countries will have the opportunity to acquire Ukrainian citizenship without renouncing their original citizenship.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, there are approximately three million ethnic Ukrainians living in these five countries. The facilitation of obtaining Ukrainian citizenship may encourage them to restore their historical ties with Ukraine.
It is worth noting that a law on dual citizenship, passed in July, will take full effect in January. In this way, the Ukrainian government aims to address the demographic crisis.
As a reminder, since the onset of the full-scale war, over 120 Russians and Belarusians have acquired Ukrainian citizenship.
