In light of substantial financial losses, Ukrzaliznytsia is contemplating an increase in dynamic pricing for first-class "Intercity" tickets and SV wagons. This was announced by Sergei Leshchenko, a member of the supervisory board of UZ, during his address in the Verkhovna Rada.
"We are planning to raise dynamic pricing for SV class and first-class "Intercity" tickets. This might improve our financial results, but it won't solve all our issues," he stated.
As of the first nine months of 2025, UZ reported a net loss of 7.1 billion UAH. Losses from passenger transport in 2024 amounted to 18 billion UAH.
To stabilize the situation, Leshchenko suggests not only higher ticket prices but also internal optimization, including the sale of scrap metal expected to yield up to 10 billion UAH. Compensation from the state budget for passenger transport losses is estimated at 16 billion UAH.
Furthermore, he announced a gradual indexing of freight tariffs in two phases: initially by 27%, followed by 11%. This, considering producer price increases, could generate around 22 billion UAH.
