Gas Explosion in Khmelnytskyi: Casualties and Consequences

A gas explosion occurred in a six-story building on Ternopilska Street in Khmelnytskyi, injuring five people, including a child. This information was shared by the State Emergency Service on Facebook.
“In Khmelnytskyi, an explosion in a residential building has left five individuals injured, one of whom is a child. Nine apartments have been severely damaged, and an additional 15 have sustained some level of damage,” the report stated.
According to preliminary information, there may be someone trapped under the rubble.
Emergency services, including rescuers, medical teams, the gas service, Red Cross volunteers, psychologists, and law enforcement, are all on-site. A support center and a psychological assistance point have been established.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances and causes of the explosion.
As noted by Vasyl Novachok, the deputy mayor, 18 apartments will need to be evacuated due to the explosion. “Initial reports indicate a gas leak in one of the apartments, which led to the explosion. One entrance way has been heavily damaged. A commission is currently working to find accommodation for the residents,” Novachok stated.
Some of these 18 apartments are beyond repair, necessitating significant construction work in the building.
All utilities have been shut off in the four-entry building.
Police have opened a criminal investigation into the gas explosion incident and are interviewing witnesses and residents to determine if anyone is trapped.
