Oktoberfest Halted Due to Explosions in Munich

The world’s largest beer festival, Oktoberfest, has been temporarily suspended in Munich due to security concerns, at least until Wednesday evening, following the discovery of explosives in a burning residential building in the northern part of the city, reported Reuters. 
In a large-scale operation, police stated there was no danger to the public, although special units were active in one of the northern districts of Munich, where media reports indicated gunfire and explosions were heard.
Authorities indicated that the residential building was set ablaze as a result of a family dispute. A body was found at the scene, and another individual is missing but is not believed to be in danger, according to law enforcement.
The police reported that special units were called in to disarm booby traps discovered within the structure.
«Currently, we are considering all possible scenarios. Investigations are underway regarding potential links to other locations in Munich, including Theresienwiese (where Oktoberfest takes place). For this reason, the opening of the festival site has been delayed,» stated the Munich police.
The Oktoberfest website announced that due to the explosion in northern Munich, the festival would be closed until 5:00 PM.
According to German media, explosions and gunfire were reported in one of the houses in Munich, resulting in one fatality. Reports suggest that a man was found dead at the scene, believed to have planted explosives in his parents' home and set it on fire before taking his own life. Local authorities have also reported at least one injured person with gunshot wounds. Oktoberfest, the largest folk festival in the world, opened on September 20 and will run until October 5.
