Modular Shelters for Residents' Safety in Zaporizhzhia
In Zaporizhzhia, plans are underway to construct new modular shelters in the courtyards of high-rise buildings. According to Akzent.zp.ua, this initiative addresses the difficulties residents face during air raid alerts.
As stated by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, not all residents can quickly access shelters, as many buildings lack basements, and those that do often do not meet safety standards.
The new shelters will be partially underground modular structures capable of accommodating between 30 and 50 individuals at once. Residents can exit their apartments directly into the courtyard where the shelter is located.
"This will eliminate the need to search for access to basements or rush to the nearest official shelter, which could be several blocks away," the statement notes.
Fedorov also emphasized that this project is part of a systematic approach. If the Ministry of Community Development approves the project, modular shelters will be installed widely in Zaporizhzhia and other towns in the region.
Currently, final negotiations are taking place regarding funding and construction organization. Authorities hope that the implementation of this initiative will help people feel safer in their neighborhoods even during the most challenging times.
Additionally, it is important to note that the first test segment of the anti-drone tunnel in Zaporizhzhia has demonstrated effectiveness, and construction of more tunnels is ongoing. The first special anti-drone tunnel has also been built in the region to protect civilian and military transport from hostile FPV drone attacks. This tunnel allows for safer movement of personnel, equipment, and evacuation of the wounded. By the end of the year, the State Enterprise "Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine" plans to install 38 additional mobile shelters in ports. In the Kherson region, 264 kilometers of roads and critical infrastructure will also be equipped with anti-drone nets.
