World Tram Driver Championship Kicks Off in Vienna
On September 13, the first ever World Tram Driver Championship, titled “1st Official World Tram Driver Championship,” will commence in Vienna. Representing Ukraine will be the team from KP “Kyivpastrans”.
The main goal of this event is to promote the profession of tram driver, improve safety standards, and enhance passenger service quality, while fostering cultural exchange among participating countries.
The championship program includes tests on tram stop precision, maneuvering in challenging track sections, and response speed in emergency situations. These tasks are designed to assess professional training and adherence to safety standards during passenger transport.
Kyiv and Ukraine will be represented by experienced tram drivers from KP “Kyivpastrans”, Halyna Zahorna and Svitlana Afanasieva, who have participated in European TRAM-EM competitions multiple times. Prior to their trip to Vienna, the participants underwent extensive training.
The World Championship (TRAM-WM) is a continuation of the European competitions (TRAM-EM), which have been held since 2012. From now on, the world tournament will take place once every three years.
It's worth mentioning that in 2022, Halyna Zahorna won a silver medal at the European Tram Driving Championship held in Leipzig, Germany.
