Honoring Fallen Heroes: A New Memorial in Ukraine
The ceremony was attended by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, Minister for Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmykova, and Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa.
The President listened to a report from the spokesperson of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, Hennadii Popenko. The memorial area has been fitted with sections for honorable burials, two columbariums have been constructed, engineering networks have been laid, and an access road has been built. Parking and a regular shuttle service have been arranged for visitors, which the President used to arrive today.
A separate area is designated for the burial of soldiers whose names are currently unknown. An Alley of Memory is also being created with linden trees as a symbol of remembrance.
The memorial's uniqueness lies in standardized burials. Initially, a temporary cross will be erected in the style of Cossack monuments from the 15th-16th centuries, and a permanent headstone in the form of a cross or plaque will be installed after a year. The final choice will be made by the deceased's relatives.
Today, five defenders were buried, whose names have not yet been established. The burial of unknown heroes will continue.
A moment of silence was observed to honor the memory of the fallen warriors.
