Exhibition 'Ukraine in Miniature' Opens in Kyiv
The 'Ukraine in Miniature' exhibition has opened in the Refectory Chamber of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, showcasing architectural masterpieces through 3D models from various regions, including iconic buildings like St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv.
Notably, some exhibits exist only in digital form due to destruction caused by the war, such as the Donetsk Drama Theater in Mariupol and the Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum in Kharkiv.
The exhibition allows visitors to not only view models but also immerse themselves in the atmosphere through VR tours, immersive videos, and music by contemporary Ukrainian artists. Using VR glasses and interactive formats, attendees can 'hear' the architecture and its emotional context.
The Skeiron studio team has created accurate 3D models of architectural landmarks, forming the basis of this exhibition. The project has already toured various European countries, including Finland, Latvia, France, and Germany, highlighting the richness of Ukrainian cultural heritage and its connection to European history.
Acting Director of the 'Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra' reserve, Svitlana Kotliarevska, emphasized that the return of the exhibition from Europe symbolizes hope for the return of occupied territories.
Curator Lina Romanukha conducted the first tour, focusing on the stylistic diversity of architecture from Baroque to Modernism. She noted that the project not only showcases architectural landmarks but also preserves the memory of what has been lost.
“We have created a map of architectural identity that speaks through the voices of cities and stories. The project combines physical models with digital technologies such as VR, allowing viewers to envision these landmarks in reality,” said the curator.
“We hope every visitor leaves the exhibition with a deep understanding that Ukrainian culture is alive, strong, and worthy of preservation,” she concluded.
The project is implemented under the 'Join Us!' program with support from USAID and the international organization Pact in Ukraine.
