Launch of the Contaminated Areas Register in Ukraine
In December, the Register for areas contaminated or potentially contaminated by explosive devices will commence operations, as stated by Igor Klymenko in an interview with «United News».
During a conversation with reporters in Cherkasy, the Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized that since the onset of the large-scale conflict, SES units have demined over 250,000 hectares of Ukrainian territory and eliminated 790,000 explosive devices.
Klymenko also pointed out that specialists are diligently working on the Register to ensure it starts functioning for legal entities by 2026. After testing, access will also be granted to individuals who hold ownership rights to specific land plots.
The Minister further announced plans to increase the number of underwater demining specialists to 500, which is a vital component of the demining ecosystem:
«The demining ecosystem can be divided into several levels: Mine Action Office, Humanitarian Demining Center, certification of specialists, underwater demining. This system is already established and operational,» said Igor Klymenko.
