Celebrating Ukraine's National Flag Day: History and Significance
On August 23, Ukraine celebrates National Flag Day, honoring the centuries-old heritage of state symbolism.
According to Ukrinform, this holiday was established to highlight the importance of national symbols and foster respect for them among citizens.
The blue and yellow colors have deep roots, tracing back to the times of Kievan Rus. During the European revolutions of 1848, this flag became a symbol of the Ukrainian people, first raised over the city hall in Lviv.
In 1990, the national flag was officially hoisted in Stryi, and later in Kyiv. On August 23, 1991, the blue-yellow flag was brought into the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada.
With the onset of Russian aggression, the blue-yellow flag became a symbol of resistance.
