Tragic Incident at Railway Station: Woman Killed by Train
A tragic event took place on August 13 at a railway station in the village of Chepiliivka, located in the Bilocherkivskyi district. At approximately 5:50 AM, a train fatally injured a woman. The station duty officer immediately reported the incident to the police.
According to the Kyiv police, the woman sustained injuries that were incompatible with life and died at the scene. Authorities are currently working to establish all circumstances surrounding the event and the identity of the deceased.
Investigators and forensic experts are also determining whether the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and whether she ended up on the tracks by accident or intentionally.
Railway officials report that the most common causes of such tragedies are haste, inattention, and reckless behavior of the victims. Often, individuals cross the tracks in unauthorized places or immediately after a train has passed, without ensuring that other trains are not approaching on adjacent tracks.
Increasingly, accidents are caused by people's inattention due to being distracted by smartphones, talking on the phone, or listening to music through headphones while crossing the tracks. It is also common for intoxicated individuals to fall asleep on the tracks.
Railway authorities urge everyone to remain vigilant and remind that a train driver cannot stop the train immediately, even with emergency braking, as the braking distance is typically 400 to 500 meters.
