Evacuation in Dresden: Dangerous Discovery at Carol Bridge

Approximately 17,000 individuals were evacuated from the area surrounding Carol Bridge in Dresden after a British-made World War II bomb was discovered.

This information was reported by the police, citing the dpa agency.

The bomb was found during demolition work on Tuesday, August 5.

For safety reasons, organizers canceled planned events related to the “Cinema Nights on the Elbe” on Tuesday evening.

According to the police statement, trams were rerouted and museums were closed. Currently, the area is being checked to ensure no one is in the danger zone.

On Wednesday morning, August 6, significant travel disruptions occurred in the eastern German city as most administrative offices and the state chancellery are located within the evacuation zone.

The danger zone also includes shops and kindergartens.

The police announced that a special bus is transporting residents to a shelter at the Dresden exhibition center, which opened at 6:00 AM for local residents.
