Increasing Demand for Railway Transportation in Ukraine

This summer, there is a significant surge in interest in passenger railway transport, surpassing the capabilities of the state company.

In August, railway services reach their peak. There are about 4 to 5 requests for each available seat on the trains.

This information was disclosed by Ukrzaliznytsia.

The company acknowledges that many passengers are frustrated as they cannot purchase tickets even right after sales open. The reason is simple — a large number of people are simultaneously searching for tickets.

Additionally, Ukrzaliznytsia noted that the fleet of carriages is decreasing faster than they can procure or modernize new ones. Some carriages have been retired due to age or damage: last year, three were lost due to Russian shelling, six were decommissioned due to wear, and 95 require expensive repairs.

Ukrzaliznytsia assures that despite all the challenges, the company continues to transport more and more passengers each year. As of August 3, there were 1488 carriages operating in long-distance trains.

The main task in the near future is to increase the number of available seats. For this, Ukrzaliznytsia needs sufficient funding to regularly purchase new carriages and Intercity trains, as well as to modernize those approaching the end of their operational life.
