Oksana Voronina's Legacy: A Street Renamed in Her Honor

Bright and talented, Oksana Voronina made her mark on the stage of the National Theater named after Lesya Ukrainka and in cinema. Her life was cut short in 2020, yet her artistic influence continues to resonate in the hearts of many.

In recent years, the Kyiv City Council has supported the renaming of nearly 300 streets, lanes, and squares associated with the country of aggression and the Soviet past. Among these changes is the renaming of Metalistiv Lane in the Solomyanskyi district.

The lane originated in the early 20th century in the historic area of Kazeni Dachi and was known as Petrovskyi until 1955, after which it was renamed Metalistiv Lane.

The majority of its low-rise buildings were lost in the 1980s, leaving only one building - No. 1 - at the lane's address.

Due to the unclear origins of the name 'Metalistiv,' the lane was listed among those needing renaming.

From June 15 to 19, 2022, an electronic voting system called 'Kyiv Digital' conducted a poll. The suggestion to rename the lane in honor of actress Oksana Voronina received the most support - 6,833 votes, as she had been performing on the stage of the National Theater named after Lesya Ukrainka since 2001.
