Texas Floods: President Declares State of Emergency

U.S. President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency for Kerr County in Texas due to sudden floods that have resulted in at least 61 fatalities.

 Trump stated that his decision would help provide rescue workers with the necessary resources to address the aftermath of this tragedy.

Quote: "I just signed a declaration of emergency for Kerr County, Texas, to provide our brave rescue workers with the necessary resources immediately. These families are facing an incredible tragedy — many lives lost, and many people are still missing".

The death toll from the floods in Texas rose to 67 on Sunday, including 21 children among the deceased.

According to Reuters, some experts question whether cuts in agencies during the Trump administration, particularly in the department overseeing the National Weather Service, led to officials being unable to predict the flood's scale and issue timely warnings.

Former director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Rick Spinrad, noted that President Donald Trump and his administration cut thousands of jobs at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, leaving many meteorological offices understaffed.
