Explosions in Berezina: Casualties and Damage Reported
On July 2nd, explosions in the village of Berezina, near Zhytomyr, resulted in 82 injuries. Among them, 38 individuals, including 4 children, are currently hospitalized, according to Vitaliy Bunechko, the head of Zhytomyr OVA.
Source: The regional head reported during a morning news marathon on July 3rd, as well as in comments to the Zhytomyr police for "Ukrainska Pravda".
Direct quote from Bunechko: "As of now, we have 2 confirmed fatalities. Rescuers managed to extract the second person overnight. Currently, there are 82 injured, with 38, including 4 children, in hospitals with moderate injuries."
The OVA head also noted that around 100 households were affected, with approximately a quarter completely destroyed.
"The state, along with regional and local authorities, will fully compensate for the lost housing. Commissions are currently working to assess the total value of the destroyed properties," Bunechko assured.
He declined to comment on what caused the powerful explosions, citing a police ban.
"We have been working with law enforcement since early morning, but it appears that they have restricted all information, and for now, I cannot comment on it. We will revisit this issue soon. A criminal case was initiated overnight and entered into the State Register of Judicial Investigations," Bunechko said, without specifying under which article the proceedings were initiated.
