New Feature for Commemorating Fallen Heroes in Kyiv Digital
Every day at 8:55 AM, users will receive a notification, and at 9:00 AM, a countdown for a moment of silence will begin.
The Kyiv Digital mobile app has launched a new option to honor the memory of those lost in the war: the daily moment of silence is now displayed as a timer right on the smartphone screen. This was announced by the Kyiv Digital team.
iOS users can activate reminders in the app and allow Live Activity in their phone settings. Daily at 8:55 AM, a notification will be sent, and at 9:00 AM, a countdown for the moment of silence will appear. For Android, to receive an interactive reminder on the screen, access to the alarm must be enabled in the system settings, and this feature should also be turned on in the app. The 8:55 AM reminder is optional.
Additionally, for iPhone owners, the Live Activity now displays the status of air alerts or their cancellation even on the locked screen.
“Honoring the memory of Defenders is not only a personal duty of each individual but also an important collective action of the entire community. Thanks to the efforts of the Kyiv Digital developers, the daily moment of silence now has a visual representation—discreet yet attentive to meaning. Back in March, we called on owners of digital advertising media to participate in this initiative so that Kyiv would serve as an example of honoring our heroes' memory, and this community responded. Now the reminder for the moment of silence will effectively be personal,” said Valentyn Mondryivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration and Kyiv City Council member (UDAR faction).
As a reminder, since April 1st, a single visual message about the beginning of the moment of silence has been broadcast daily at 9:00 AM on digital billboards, city lights, and in the metro. This initiative was implemented in accordance with the decision of the Coordinating Council on the memorialization of events of the Russo-Ukrainian War and with the support of the Kyiv City Council.
