Inauguration of the Memorial to Ukrainian Intelligence Officers
In a solemn ceremony in Kyiv, Metropolitan Epiphanius and Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov unveiled a new Memorial dedicated to Ukrainian intelligence officers.
This Memorial pays tribute to all military intelligence personnel and foreign volunteers who have lost their lives in the struggle for Ukraine's independence.
The central feature of the Memorial is the word Aeternitas, meaning "Eternity," inscribed in various languages. This reflects the international nature of the fight, as volunteers from over 50 countries serve alongside Ukrainians.
Two pillars resembling wings and shields symbolize protection and struggle, while the silent space between them bears the names of fallen intelligence officers.
From a bird's-eye view, the design resembles the eye of an owl, symbolizing eternal vigilance. The Memorial was consecrated by His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv and all Ukraine.
"Each of the fallen intelligence officers made the ultimate sacrifice for Ukraine. This is not only a military but a spiritual feat. Remember: the Lord is where people are willing to give themselves for others," emphasized Epiphanius.
The Memorial was designed by renowned sculptor Nazar Bylyk, who previously created a memorial for the Heavenly Hundred Heroes.
"This Memorial speaks of dignity and silence, where strength can be felt," noted Bylyk.
The memory of the fallen was honored with a moment of silence and a military salute. General Kyrylo Budanov, along with the families of the fallen, laid flowers at the Memorial.
"Many of our intelligence officers returned on their shields, and their feats will live forever, as will the names inscribed on the Memorial's plaques. They have gone to eternity but will always be remembered by the Ukrainian people," stated Budanov.
The Memorial will serve as a site of remembrance for fallen intelligence officers and will be an integral part of military rituals.
Eternal memory and glory to the military intelligence officers! Glory to Ukraine!
