Committee Meeting on the Protection of Archaeological Heritage
On June 12, Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochitsky participated in an off-site meeting of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Humanitarian and Information Policy. The meeting was convened to assess the condition of the national archaeological site "The Area of the Coastal Urban Quarter of Medieval Kyiv," located at Poshtova Square in Kyiv.
The head of the Ministry, together with the Committee Chairman Mykyta Poturayev, Committee members, representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration, and public organizations inspected the archaeological site and the national significance landmark "Poshta Station."
He noted that the working group of the Ministry is activating its efforts to develop a plan for the museum establishment on the archaeological site, aiming to address all issues related to preserving and developing this unique historical and cultural heritage object. The next meeting of the working group is scheduled for June 18, with invitations extended to representatives of the public organization "Museum of One Nation at Poshtova," the Kyiv City State Administration, and the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy.
The participants of the Committee's off-site meeting unanimously supported the need to protect the landmark and took control of the situation. All parties agreed on the necessity of an open dialogue and securing the legal status of the museum at the excavation site.
It is worth noting that the public organization "Museum of One Nation at Poshtova" has appealed to the President of Ukraine with a request to take personal patronage over the archaeological site at Poshtova Square. The petition emphasizes that this territory was historically significant for the Baptism of Rus, preserving unique remnants of urban development and paving from the 9th-10th centuries. The co-founder of the public organization went on a hunger strike, demanding the preservation of the landmark and the establishment of a museum.
