Advancements in Drone Technology for Ukraine's Defense
Ukraine is actively developing new unmanned aerial vehicles aimed at enhancing the security of its energy infrastructure against large-scale Russian assaults.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky during the "Ukraine – Southeast Europe" summit on June 11 in Odesa.
Ukraine is advancing interceptor drones
"We have some weapons under development. We are seeking additional funding for mass production of various types of interceptor drones," the President stated.
He emphasized the urgent need for new defensive measures, as Russian forces are launching over 300 drones daily into Ukraine.
Zelensky also noted that several layers of protection for the energy infrastructure are already in place, primarily relying on traditional air defense systems. However, he stressed the importance of maintaining confidentiality regarding their locations.
"I won't disclose what systems we have and where they are located, as once the Russians know where our air defense systems are, they will target them. Therefore, we constantly change the positions of our air defense units," the President explained.
"Bars" – a new Ukrainian missile drone with a range of up to 800 km
A private company in Ukraine is developing a new missile drone called "Bars", but details remain scarce.
According to unconfirmed information, it can strike targets at distances of 700-800 kilometers with a warhead weighing 50-100 kilograms.
In comparison, the Shahed-136/Geran-2 kamikaze drones used by Moscow to attack Ukrainian cities typically carry a 50-kilogram warhead and have a claimed flight range of 2,500 km, but they are significantly slower than missiles, making them easier to intercept.
