Even though the official swimming season has not been launched in Kyiv, the water quality at the beaches is reported to be acceptable.
This was stated by Serhiy Chumak, the chief sanitary doctor of the capital, during an interview with "Ukrinform".
According to him, the Kyiv Center for Disease Control and Prevention, along with other agencies, continues to monitor the water in recreational areas.
"We are regularly taking water samples and testing the sand on the beaches. If someone decides to swim, our sanitary indicators show that the water is currently safe for this purpose," Chumak emphasized.
On May 16, the Kyiv City Military Administration announced that the decision of the City Defense Council from May 17, 2023, is still in effect.
According to this decision, the swimming season in Kyiv has not been officially opened, and residents are advised against visiting beaches and crowded areas near water.
These restrictions have been implemented for safety reasons under the martial law conditions, as large gatherings on beaches during air alerts may hinder access to shelters.
