The 'Person of the Year 2024' Award Ceremony
The award ceremony for ‘Person of the Year 2024’ took place in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, recognizing outstanding professional and social accomplishments of citizens. The event was hosted by prominent TV personalities Kateryna Osadcha and Yuriy Horbunov.
The ‘Mayor of the Year’ nomination honors those leaders who have made a significant contribution to the development of their cities, enhancing infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents.
The award was presented to Hennadiy Trukhanov by Mikhail Pozhivanov, a member of parliament from four convocations and the former mayor of Mariupol. He emphasized that it was a great honor to recognize the best mayor in Ukraine.
“Odesa today is a city that supports the military, home to nearly 100,000 internally displaced persons, and stands firm against all challenges,” said Pozhivanov.
Hennadiy Trukhanov expressed his gratitude for the award, which symbolizes trust for him:
“I am thankful to every Odesan, every Ukrainian, who works for the good of their community. This award represents our indomitable Odesa, Odesa-Mother, which cares for everyone: the displaced, the military, and those in need of warmth and support. Our team works daily: we assist the Armed Forces, create rehabilitation programs, prepare the city for the health season, and launch new initiatives such as the Barrier-Free Council, established together with veterans,” noted Hennadiy Trukhanov.
During his speech, the mayor thanked the military and invited them to Odesa for relaxation. He also shared his most painful experiences:
“It’s hard to bury comrades. But I will say this: the most difficult part is burying children that we pull from the rubble. This is unforgivable. Every murderer will face justice - earthly and heavenly,” said Trukhanov, emphasizing that victory will undoubtedly belong to Ukraine.
“Odesa is strong. Odesa is alive. And we will hold on - for those who are with us and for those we have lost,” concluded Hennadiy Trukhanov.
