«There were three brothers: Kyi, Shchek, and Khoriv, and their sister was Lybid. Kyi sat upon the hill where today stands the Borychiv Descent, Shchek on the hill now known as Shchekavytsia, and Khoriv on the third hill, called Khorivka. In honor of their elder brother, they established a settlement and named it Kyiv», — wrote Nestor the Chronicler in his account.
Every year, on the last Sunday of May, Kyiv celebrates City Day. This festival has become an integral part of the city's life, and it is hard to believe that its tradition began only at the end of the last century, when in 1982 celebrations marked the 1500th anniversary of our city.
