New Military Support for Ukraine under European Defense Initiative

European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius has confirmed that as part of the 800 billion euro ReArm Europe plan, a portion of funds will be allocated for military support to Ukraine.

Details: Kubilius explained that the ReArm Europe plan consists of two major components: a projected increase of 650 billion euros in defense spending by member states and 150 billion euros in loans for defense procurements.

"Loans of 150 billion euros can only be taken by member states, but they can use these funds for joint procurements with Ukraine, including purchases from the Ukrainian defense industry for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," he added.

The Commissioner emphasized that the Ukrainian industry is being treated equally with the European defense industry for the first time.

"From the 650 billion designated for national defense spending, a part can also be spent on weapons for Ukraine. This will be a decision made by the member states," Kubilius noted.
