In the Rivne region, two teenagers were injured due to explosions of hazardous items. One suffered injuries from a lithium battery explosion, while the other sustained fractures from a firecracker explosion.
These incidents occurred on April 22, as reported by the Rivne police press service.
The first case happened in the evening in Rivne. A 14-year-old boy, who was walking down Haidamatska Street, found a lithium battery.
"The boy brought it home and started to disassemble it with a knife. At that moment, it exploded.
Medical personnel urgently hospitalized him with traumatic amputation of three finger phalanges," police officials reported.
The other incident occurred in the village of Horodok, near Rivne. In the evening, a 13-year-old local resident found a firecracker on the street. When he pulled the string, it exploded.
At the hospital, he was diagnosed with fractures of two finger phalanges and was released after receiving treatment.
"Authorities once again urge citizens: if you find a suspicious item, do not touch it, call the emergency line 102 immediately, and keep others away from the scene," police appeal.
Currently, police are investigating both incidents.
