Inspection of Pharmacies for Qualified Staff Compliance

The State Service for Medicines (DSSM) will initiate inspections of Ukrainian pharmacies to assess the presence of qualified pharmacists.

This action follows the discovery of insufficient staffing in some establishments lacking necessary qualifications.

This was reported by the Ministry of Health.

The ministry emphasized that only individuals with pharmaceutical education are authorized to dispense medications, as this is critical for patient safety.

Furthermore, data regarding pharmacists must be entered into the electronic health system (EHS).

Pharmacies that have not submitted information to the EHS about qualified staff will be subject to inspection. The DSSM will verify whether these establishments operate in accordance with their licensing conditions.

“This is an important step toward improving the quality of pharmaceutical services and patient safety. Patients must be assured that a qualified professional is assisting them when obtaining or purchasing medications, and that the service meets quality standards,” stated Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

It is worth noting that scheduled inspections of pharmacies will resume in January 2025, with a focus on those operating within hospitals.
