On April 13, 2025, a missile attack on Sumy claimed the life of renowned musician Olena Kohut. She was a soloist with the regional philharmonic, an artist at the local theater, and taught at a college.
Her tragic passing was reported by colleagues from the Sumy National Theater and philharmonic.
“This day brought us indescribable pain, as Olena was not just a professional but a genuine person,” the theater statement said.
Her colleagues from the arts college noted that Olena was a brilliant pianist, full of creative energy.
They remarked that she was a supportive mentor to her students, helping them believe in their abilities.
“She taught not only music but also kindness and optimism,” they added.
Olena also performed in historic churches across Europe, singing the Ukrainian anthem to promote the culture.
She is survived by her mother, husband, and sons.
Details of the farewell to Olena Kohut will be announced later.
It is worth noting that on this day, Russia attacked Sumy, resulting in the deaths of 32 people, including two children.
