Meta Unveils Latest Language Model Llama

On Saturday, Meta Platforms announced the release of new versions of its language model known as Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick.

Meta claims that Llama is a multimodal artificial intelligence system.

These multimodal systems can process and integrate various types of data, including text, video, images, and audio, and can convert content among these formats.

Furthermore, the company stated that Llama 4 Maverick and Llama 4 Scout will feature open-source software.

Meta also announced a preview of Llama 4 Behemoth, which it described as “one of the smartest LLMs in the world and our most powerful, serving as a teacher for our new models.”

Major tech firms are actively investing in AI infrastructure following the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has reshaped the tech landscape and spurred investment in machine learning.

On Friday, The Information reported that Meta postponed the launch of the latest LLM version, as the development of Llama 4 did not meet Meta's expectations in technical tests, particularly in reasoning and mathematical tasks.

The company also expressed concerns that Llama 4 was less capable than OpenAI's models in conducting human-like voice conversations, according to the report.
