Scammers on Telegram: How to Protect Yourself from Fraud

Scammers are using fake video clips on the messaging app Telegram to extract money or spread phishing links.

Details: The agency explains how these criminals operate:

• First, they hack an account and upload the user's video message;
• Then, they create a fabricated monologue in which the hacked user supposedly asks for money;
• They send the counterfeit video to the user's friends and acquaintances.

To avoid being scammed, law enforcement advises verifying the information if you receive such a suspicious video. Ask your friend to message you on another platform or give you a call. It is also advisable to enable two-factor authentication to secure your account.
